Welcome Ella | Castle Rock Newborn Photographer

This one’s a little personal.  When I was about 16 or so I proclaimed to my two sisters that I “called” the name Ella for my own daughter.  Mind you I was 16, definitely not pregnant nor expecting to be a mother anytime soon.  But Ella was the name of our sweet Granny, and I knew early on I wanted to honor her.  She was a dear presence in my young life giving to me my love of books, teddy bears, ivory soap, playing dress up, and Brach’s milk maid royal candies.  When I was a young teenager  she became unwell and never fully recovered.   Ella-Babe, as she was called (her mother was Ella as well), was a vibrant, intelligent, caring, loving, spiritual woman.  She was the embodiment of “good.”  After she fell ill she was never the same but my memories of her when she was healthy and strong and vibrant were emblazoned on my heart and my soul.  And I always wanted to make sure that the name of Ella was carried on in our family.  Ella-Babe passed away just a few weeks after my 2nd son Holden was born in 2006.  

Fast forward a few  years and here I sit with my two handsome fellas who honestly would feel a little silly with the nam Ella.  And ironically my sisters both have given birth to 5 girls between them.  When my younger sister Kimi discovered she was pregnant last spring she asked me if I was indeed done with having babies. I was.  And would I be ok if she chose Ella for her 2nd baby.  Of course. Of course.  And my heart felt full and it felt very right.  She is likely the last baby we will have in this generation of our family and it is only right that she be named after our Granny.  So with that, I introduce to you my gorgeous niece, Ella Grace.  I think Ella-Babe would be over the moon for her…
