Earlier this week I had the honor of capturing a truly remarkable event – a head shaving event for St. Baldrick’s foundation. St. Baldrick’sFoundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. Most of the volunteers involved with this organization sadly know the pain of losing a child to cancer – something, honestly, most of us cannot even fathom. I know several families involved with this amazing organization, and I am stopped in my tracks each time I hear their stories. The head shaving is done in honor of those who have fought the cancer battle, and the funding raised by such events goes directly towards finding a cure for childhood cancers. I can’t think of a more worthy organization to donate my time or my funds to. I think you’ll agree.
The Rosen family came to me a few weeks ago asking me to capture their annual head shaving, in honor of their son Brandon who passed away from complications from cancer 4 years ago. I first met Brookly Rosen last year when she did some design work for me, and she shared the store of her son Brandon with me then. I was so touched by her courage and strength, and her immense love for all three of her boys. Brandon’s brother, Layton, age 10, shaved his long locks in honor of his brother and best friend. Layton’s dad John and his teacher also volunteered for the task. It was a heartwarming morning at DCS Montessori where several of Layton’s school pals watched the shaving happen, and donated their own dollars and change towards the cause.
Thank you for inviting me to be a part of this event Rosen family. My heart is warmed by your love and your courage.
