Happy New Year! I love this time of year, everything feels fresh and new and full of possibilities. I’ve put away my holiday decorations and I’ve run my vacuums (yes, plural) pretty much every day since New Year’s Day. My studio is clean and freshened up and has already welcomed the first baby of the year! His mama reached out to me way back in September for their session – I love when my families reach out to me ahead of baby’s arrival!
One of the questions I get asked quite frequently is why do you need to book so far ahead for newborn sessions? Especially if you don’t know when baby is going to arrive?! Well let’s explore that, shall we?
Guaranteed Appointment: By scheduling your newborn session before baby arrives, you are first of all guaranteed an appointment. I can’t always fit in last minute requests; my schedule can fill up pretty far in advance. When you book your newborn session with me early, I put your due date into my calendar as a place holder. I mean we all know babies rarely arrive on their due dates (except my first born, who arrived just after noon on his due date, and is still a very punctual young man at the age of 15), but by adding your due date, I know approximately how many sessions I will have in a month’s time period, and can plan my other session dates accordingly. In 11 years of doing this business I’ve always been able to get every pre-booked family an appointment within that first 2 week time frame we aim for in scheduling a newborn appointment. Baby is still sleepy and curly and fresh, the perfect age to be photographed!
Early Arrivals: Babies come on their own schedules. I’ve photographed babes who were born as young as 24 weeks, and as “old” as 43 weeks. There’s no telling when these sweet babes will arrive, so by planning ahead for your newborn session, you have less to worry about after baby arrives. I can’t tell you how many emails I get from panicky parents who have delivered their baby early and haven’t booked their newborn session yet. That’s the last thing I want a new parent to worry about just days after giving birth. Rest assured when you book ahead, the planning is given over to me to ensure a perfect newborn session!
Planning Ahead: Every session with me is unique and specialized for each family. When you book your session before baby arrives, we have time to discuss your vision for your session: colors, textures, props, themes, wardrobe, etc. We discuss all of this ahead of time, so you don’t have to worry about any of it in the days after baby has arrived. By booking early I can begin to create your session for you, planning for all the elements of the session, and even purchasing or making new items if necessary to fulfill your vision.
These are just a few reasons to book early with me for your newborn baby. By meeting with me early we get to know one another and plan for this special portrait session.
